CesareA. Ricciardi (1892 1973)
Bornin Italy in 1892, Cesare Ricciardi came to the United States at the age of six.He began his formal art studies at the Philadelphia Sketch Club beforeenrolling at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where he received hismost influential training under the instruction of Thomas Anshutz, CeciliaBeaux, Hugh Breckenridge, Robert Henri and Leopold Seiffert. He later traveledto Paris for further studies. Ricciardi lived most of his life in Philadelphia.He was known for his society portraits, but also painted landscapes ofAddingham, as well as Bucks, Delaware, and Chester counties and thePhiladelphia area. Ricciardi also spent time in New England and often paintedmoonlit harbors and dock scenes.
Hewas a member of the Philadelphia Sketch Club and the Philadelphia Art Alliance.His work was included in exhibitions at the Pennsylvania Academy of the FineArts, the Corcoran Gallery Biennials, the National Academy of Design and theArt Institute of Chicago. The work of Cesare Ricciardi is in the permanentcollection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
